Broncos Cruise Through WWPA First Round

LOS ANGELES - The Santa Clara women's water polo team started off the WWPA Championships in convincing fashion, with a 9-1 blowout victory of Chapman. With the win, the No. 5 seeded Broncos move on to the quarterfinals where they will face No. 4 seeded Cal State Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m. today.

Santa Clara came out blazing, shooting out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, brought it to 7-0 later and cruised from that point on. The Broncos improved to 18-11 on the season and 13-6 against WWPA opponents. Eight different players for Santa Clara scored in the game, including a pair of goals from Emily Bonk.
